VET DAY
Lisa’s leg was checked.
It’s looking much better but the abscess has to be removed next week.
MoMo’s eyes healed completely (she never opens her eyes for a picture!) but she still has very bad diarrhea and needs medication for another week. She had a Droncit injection (de-wormer) and hopefully she will be fine in a couple of days.
We will try to socialize her so she can be adopted.
Monty had a check-up. He’s completely healthy and ready to be adopted!
25th October 2014
People came knocking at our door to tell us that a kitten got stuck in their garage so we went to catch him.
He's beautiful and looks very healthy so hopefully we'll find a very good home for him in a couple of weeks.

A small kitten with very infected eyes was caught in a colony.
It's heart breaking when you see such a lovely munchkin in such a bad state...
She's very "wild" (feral) and afraid but we are managing to clean her eyes and medicate her.

LILY and SOPHIE went to their forever loving home in The Netherlands!
In June 2014 Lily and Sophie were rescued from different colonies in Mellieha.
Lily had cat flu and infected eyes and Sophie had a very infected tail which had to be amputated.
After a lot of TLC they became two beautiful lovely kittens and today they had a very exciting day as they went on a flight to The Netherlands, together with the parents of their new mummy who came to Malta to pick them up.
They joined their "brother and sister" Odin and Andra, who were adopted by the same mummy and daddy one month ago.
It’s always heart-breaking to let our babies go but we couldn't wish for a better forever home and this made saying goodbye much easier.
A big THANK YOU to Laura and Pieter who gave our four babies such a lovely home!

After one month
Now
This very early morning at 5.15 am (before going to the airport with Lily and Sophie) Candy gave a loud scream
and fell on the floor; she was very sick and it was obvious that she was dying…
At 6.00 am she passed away.
She had kidney failure for quite some time and we expected this to happen one day but not this soon.
We will miss her dearly and she will always be in our hearts.
R.I.P. lovely Candy.

Vet day!
Cali, a young male, was neutered.
Lisa was checked. She has a very bad infected front leg and cat flu and got an antibiotic injection. She will get antibiotics until the infection is gone and will be checked again.
She will stay in our care until she’s completely healthy.
Fuxa, our problem child, was checked again.
His nose doesn’t seem to heal so he got a steroid injection.
Candy had another check-up.Her kidneys are in a bad state and she will get Fortekor.
Katy was checked again. She has difficulties in breathing, which gets worse when she’s nervous, and will stay on Ventolin.
Alexia was checked again. She’s doing very well and became a real beauty!
She will remain on Fortekor and hopefully her kidneys will regenerate.
Lily and Sophie are going to their new home in The Netherlands on Sunday and had their last health check.
We will miss them dearly but at the same time we are so happy that they found a lovely family and will be joining Odin and Andra who left already on the 15th September 2014.

Giga, who was neutered and one of her eyes removed, recovered completely and was released in her colony.
It's always difficult to let them go in the wild again, especially when they have been in our care for a long time, but there's no other option when they are not friendly enough to be adopted and after all they are always very happy to be in their own environment and to see their furry friends again ....

In another colony we caught a male who we were trying to catch for a long time....
he's so clever but today we trapped him!
He will be neutered tomorrow.

Tabitha was adopted by a lovely family!
In her new home.
9th October 2014
We received the results of Alexia's blood test.
As we expected, her kidneys are in a very bad condition and even her liver is not good so she needs medication (Fortekor) and a special diet.
She was seen by several vets and no one could guess her age; she's very small and looks like a kitten, but when you look at her teeth (with a lot of tartar) one would say that she's much older...
We can only hope that she's still young and the poor condition of her teeth, kidneys and liver is caused by the bad circumstances she used to live in as in that case there's a chance that she will regenerate.
We will do another blood test in six weeks time and then we'll know more.

Alexia had a blood test because she's drinking and peeing a lot.
Tomorrow we'll have the results.
Giga's eye was removed and she was neutered once she was sedated.
She's doing very well and started eating straight away :-)

The Primary School in Mellieha celebrated World Animal Day 2014 today and for the 4th year we were invited to represent Animal Care Malta in this wonderful event.
The children were allowed to bring their pets to be blessed by the priest but some of them preferred to bring a picture or a soft toy because they didn't want to stress their beloved pets, an initiative we support…
We were allowed to tell the children about our work and we told them about the rescued kittens of this year, accompanied by a slide-show.
After our presentation we were presented by the cat food which was collected by the children these last weeks.
A BIG thank you for the teachers and children of Kullegg Maria Regina Primarja Mellieha!

The vet came for a home visit.
The vet came for a home visit.
Lola had a Droncit injection as she had tapeworm.
Alexia had her first vaccination.
She’s doing very well but still peeing a lot so next week she will have a blood test to check her kidneys.
Milo had his second vaccination. He’s now completely ready to go to Ireland but we’re waiting for arrangements from his adoptees.
The kitten with infected eye was checked. The infection is gone and according to the vet her eye should be removed next week.
Fuxa was checked (again!). His nose is still showing signs of fungus so we will keep him on Itrafungol for another week.
He’s still limping with his back leg so he will remain on Neurorubine.
Tommy was checked and seems to be fine (as far as possible) but we’ll keep an eye on him.

A female was caught in a colony and neutered.
We received an update from the mummy of Alex and Picolino (Bernie and Zorro now), who were adopted by a lovely family one year ago:
"Bernie is a most beautiful cat - and Zorro is my one and only talking cat!! He talks to us - he walks and talks up and down the stairs - he wakes us up every morning, he meows all the time for attention - he nappes with me every afternoon - and when I do not rest - he would go and sleep on my bed - still! He tries to catch flies like Bernie... they play together, so sweet”
