A peaceful evening.

Another day at the vet.
SALT had another steroid injection.
He has nose cancer and we saw the spots on his nose coming bigger again but according to the vet he isn't that bad.
Hopefully this injection will dry up the spots again...

The most terrible day....
Last night I checked on Dean around midnight and he was really bad, I could only pray that he would make it to the morning so we could take him to the vet.
But.... this morning, at 4 am, we found him lifeless.
We've cried our hearts out...
Fly high dear Dean, we loved you so much!

DEAN isn't doing well.
He was only laying on a chair so we moved him to a room where he's by himself.
I'm force feeding him 4 times a day and giving him his medicines but sometimes I don't know if I'm doing right or wrong...
It's obvious that he doesn't want to eat anything but force feeding was advised by the vet.
Hoping that he'll make it to the morning so we can take him to the vet again...

Five cats from colonies were neutered today.

This morning I called the vet to ask if Dean would be released today but the answer was: "No, he didn't eat nor pee yet on his own so he has to stay here for another day". Of course we were very disappointed as we felt so sorry for our Dean...
But then, around 13.30, I had a phone call from the vet who told me that we could pick him up! He still didn't eat but he peed a little bit, still with blood, and at least the vet understood that most probably he was too stressed in the clinic and would be better in his own environment.
He was so happy to be home! Still very afraid... most probably he was thinking that we were going to take him to the vet again... poor boy....
We have a BIG list with discharge instructions: only special food, a bag full of medicines, etc. etc.
We LOVE our vets but little do they know about running a sanctuary and stray cats like Dean who we still can't touch although he's already here for over 6 years and is always inside our house!; to make things worse he never eats any wet food so we can't even put the medicines in his food!
But of course, we will try!
Our vet always gives us very good prices but of course: every thing is too much for us and today we had quite a shock!
Please consider to donate so we can continue to give our rescued cats the very best care! Thanks!

The vet called for an update: an ultrasound was done in the morning, no stones were seen and the catheter will be removed tonight.
Most probably he will be released tomorrow.

Yesterday we noticed that DEAN wasn't feeling well; these thing ALWAYS happen on a Sunday when the vet clinic isn't open!
We could only hope that things wouldn't get worse during the day and night so we could take him to the vet in the morning.
We couldn't figure out what was wrong with him: couldn't he pee? was he constipated? Something else?..... BIG stress!
At 8.30 am he was already at the vet and they took him in straight away, being an emergency.
After being examined the vet told us that his bladder was 4 times bigger than usual so the problem was (again!) that he couldn't pee!
He had this problem before but at that time he was going on the litterbox all the time so we knew that that was the problem but this time he didn't show any signs...
He was sedated and examined thoroughly: he was blocked at the tip of his penis so it was easy to unblock (at least).
Blood and urine tests were done: the kidney levels were high, most probably due to the blockage.
He was given a strong painkiller and in the evening they flushed his catheter.
Hoping for better news tomorrow....
