19th April 2023
Today we had a devastating day.
The girl who was taken to the vet on the 6th April 2023 and was diagnosed with asthma had her antibiotics for 10 days but didn't improve so we booked another appointment for a check up.
She was given a steroid injection and sent home but unfortunately she passed away on the way home.
Rest in peace dear little darling, we did our best and we're very sorry that we failed you.
You were loved and we'll never forget you 💖
Our life isn't easy 😪

A sick cat was caught in one of our colonies yesterday as she had breathing problems and was seen by the vet today.
She was diagnosed with asthma and needs medicines for 10 days so we're keeping her in our recovery as comfortable as possible.

Last week we were told by friends who are living partly in Malta and partly in the UK (and feed stray cats when they are here and Charlie feeds them when they're away) that they had a stray cat coming in their house who was heavily pregnant.
Charlie went to see the cat but she seemed to have a notch in her ear (which means that she's neutered) but as they are leaving to the UK tomorrow we gave them some of our traps and told them to trap her as they were very worried about her and still thought that she's pregnant 😁
This evening they brought "her" here but by now we're 99% sure that "she" is a neutered male! 😂
He's in a room by himself now and we'll see how he goes but he's super friendly so he'll stay here. 🤭

Another vet day
BEN was seen by the vet on the 13th February 2023 because he had blood in his urine. At that time he was diagnosed with a urinary infection, at least he didn't have any crystals in his urine, and was put on antibiotics for 7 days. We were also told that he should be on special (urinary) food for life.
Of course we followed the vets' advice and after the 7 days antibiotic course he seemed to be ok but after a couple of weeks he started peeing with blood again so we contacted the vet. We were told to give him CystoCure and see if it would come better but unfortunately it didn't.
Today he was examined thoroughly again, he had an ultrasound, and the vet (another vet than last time) told us that NOTHING was wrong with him: she checked everything but everything was completely ok!
Her diagnose was that he's peeing with blood because of stress!
Of course we were relieved that he didn't have anything wrong (we already had the worst scenarios in our mind!) but we were (and are) also puzzled HOW he can have stress?! He's been with us since he was a kitten, was always inside our house and all our other cats are always very relaxed but it's true that he was (and is) always very skittish.
Now he's on Cystophan for 2 weeks and we'll keep him on urinary food for the time being. He's also sleeping in a room by himself to keep him relaxed as possible, we know that he really likes that.
Fingers crossed that he'll be better soon!

BILLY-JOE was also taken to the vet for a check up.
In September 2019 he was in a very bad state as all of a sudden he had a very fast heart beat and couldn't breathe. He rushed him to the vet and he was placed in an oxygen chamber until the next morning.
He was diagnosed with DCM: dilated cardiomyopathy what means that he has an enlarged heart chamber which causes the heart to become overloaded and will often lead to congestive heart failure. In Billy's case it seemed to be genetic and he needed medication for life.
The vet told us that his life expectancy was only one more year... we were devastated as he was only one year old at that time!
But.... HEY HEY.... after more than 3.5 years he's still alive and kicking! 😃 (of course he has his medication every day).
Today he had an ultrasound again and everything is VERY good! We can even stop one of his medicines!
Hopefully we can keep him like this for a VERY long time!

3rd April 2023
BEBBUXA used to live in a colony and was brought to us in 2014.
She was going to be adopted by a Scottish couple so we arranged everything, all injections, passport etc. but in the end they didn't want her so she remained here.
We didn't know how old she was but for sure she wasn't young and unfortunately these last weeks she was deteriorating very fast. She was loosing weight and a few days ago we saw that she had blood in her stool so we booked an appointment at the vet.
Unfortunately only one of her kidneys was working (besides other problems) and the vet advised us to be kind and to put her to sleep as she would never come better.
We knew she wasn't in good health but we didn't expect this...
RIP dear Bebbuxa.
