July 2023
31st July 2023
DAVY and LUIGI were taken to the vet.
DAVY needed a dental because he had an infected root (tooth) but today 6 teeth were extracted.
Besides this, the tooth which had an infected root came partly off and left a big hole; the rest of the tooth was extracted and the hole had to be stitched (with 4 stitches) because otherwise the hole would collect food and would come out from his nose.
Even another tooth at the bottom needed 2 stitches.
So... he's very poorly now but fortunately he already had an appetite and ate quite well (very soft food).
He's on antibiotics for 10 days and on pain killers for 5 days.

Unfortunately all our fears for LUIGI came truth.
He had a lump in his throat (tonsils), which most probably was cancer, and even another one on the side of his mouth which bursted and collected the fur which he was licking off; because of this "hair ball" he couldn't swallow anything...
Nothing could be done for him so we had to let him go....
Our hearts are in pieces...
He has been living in our house for 10 years and although he never wanted to be touched, he was a very sweet boy who never caused any problems and was very best friends with DEAN.
After DEAN passed away last November he never was the same as he was grieving for his best friend.
We hope that he'll be reunited with DEAN on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge.
Fly high sweet LUIGI ❤

DAVY was taken to the vet as an emergency because he was bleeding from his nose and vomiting water.
We were very worried as he's 17 years old (he was my first bottle fed baby) and NEVER has been sick.
He was examined thoroughly and the result was that he has an infected tooth and because of this he was drinking a lot of water (most probably to ease the pain) which he was throwing up.
He had an anti-inflammatory and a vitamin injection and we booked him for a dental on the 31st July 2023.

Unfortunately LUIGI is deteriorating; he's in a really bad state, hardly eating anything so he lost a lot of weight and he can't walk properly. We're very upset about this and we'll take him also to the vet on the 31st July 2023.
Fingers crossed but we're fearing the worst.... 😿

10th July 2023
We took LUIGI to the vet.
He wasn't looking good these last days; we suspected that he was having teeth problems so we booked him for a dental.
We told the vet that he had to be examined sedated as although he's been living with us (in our house) for 10 years we still can't even touch him... Nevertheless he has a lovely character and was very best friends with DEAN who passed away last November. Since that time he never was the same as he was grieving for his very best friend....😿
He had only a few teeth left and two were extracted but the vet also saw a (hard) lump at the back of his mouth which could be a tumor. Unfortunately an X-ray or ultrasound wouldn't determine this. The only way to determine would be to take a sample which had to be send to the US but the vet didn't want to to this because it could cause excessive bleeding which wouldn't stop.
A blood test was done and results were "normal".
He was given a steroid injection (hoping that this will stop the tumor) and antibiotics for 5 days.
We can only hope and pray that he will be better next week ….

PANTHER went to the vet.
He was brought to us in 2011 as a kitten with severe eye problems; his eyes were both closed and with a lot of TLC he opened his eyes after one week but his 3rd eyelid was stuck and was irritating him (entropion).
He was operated in both eyes and after a lot of medication he came better after a month but he always remained with chronical eye and nose problems.
We always managed to get him back on his feet but these last days he stopped eating and was snotting a lot....
Unfortunately we couldn't take him to the vet straight away because nowadays they only work with appointments (they kept it like this since COVID-19) and it always takes some days (or more) until we can have an appointment.
Very frustrating....
But... we have a lot of experience so we started giving him diluted Manuka Honey and antibiotics (Doxycycline) and after 2 days he was already better and started eating!
Today he had a steroid injection and some vitamin injections and we were told to continue with Doxycycline for another 10 days.
He's 12 years old and we hope that he can spend a lot more years in our care!

TOYA was also taken to the vet.
She was brought to us in 2021 after she fell from a car engine when the car was started!
She had a broken back ankle, several burns on her face and body and had an injured ear.
We treated her for 2 months with all kind of medicines and 2 months later she had another X-ray which showed that callus formed but that she would always remain weak.
She was always doing well (we don't let her go in the garden -where she could jump-) but these last days we noticed that she was loosing balance.
According to the vet the bones (in her back leg) didn't grow properly which is causing arthritis.
She's now on joint supplements which hopefully will help her!

A feeder took a stray cat to the vet for a dental and he'll stay in our recovery for one week with antibiotics.
