Kelly was taken to the vet as she was crying when she was eating so we booked a dental.
Two (big) teeth were extracted so hopefully she'll feel better soon.

Tiny was taken to the vet as he wasn't eating these last two days and because we thought something was wrong with his teeth we booked a dental.
It was true that he had quite some bad teeth so the vet started surgery. After a while the vet called me and told me that she extracted 5 teeth but all of a sudden his heart stopped.
They managed to get him back with CPR and did blood test which showed that his kidneys were VERY bad. He was kept on a drip but then the vet called again and told me that he wouldn't have any quality of life...
We weren't prepared for this but didn't want to let him suffer so with a heavy heart we had to take the most difficult decision and sent him over the rainbow bridge.
RIP dear Tiny, at least we know that we gave you the very best life.

A SAD STORY WITH A HAPPY ENDING
Last Tuesday, when I was at the vet with Munchie, a woman called me. A VERY rude woman.
She was shouting at me: "Animal Care?"
Me: "Yes"
She: "Do you keep cats?" (still shouting)
Me: "Yes of course"
She: "I have a cat and I want to take him off!"
I thought I understood her wrong and said: "Sorry? What do you mean?"
She: "I have a cat and I can't stand him anymore, he's jumping on everything and I have to remove all my things. I've closed him in the yard and he's crying all the time. When can you take him?"
I'm used to this kind of questions but the way she was talking made me SO angry!
I asked her if he was neutered.
She: "No"
I told her that she should neuter him so he calms down but she said: "I don't want to neuter him! I want to take him off!!"
I told her that a sanctuary isn't the right place for a home cat and advised her to find him a good home.
Obviously this wouldn't happen so in the evening I asked her to send me a picture so I would try to find him a good home and at the same time her niece contacted me. She told me that he was 3 years old and that her auntie couldn't take care of him anymore.
I knew this was a serious situation so I posted him on Facebook the same evening.
There were some adoption requests but this poor cat needed a special home with experienced people...
The next day I received another request and I knew straight away that this would be the right home!
On Thursday his new parents went to pick him up from Mellieha.
They were heart broken when they saw where he was kept: in a small tiled yard, without a litter box, no water, no food, no toys. He was NEVER taken to the vet in 3 years time and NEVER had any wet food....
Yesterday he was taken to the vet and he was neutered and micro chipped at our expenses.
His new parents did all the tests and everything was fine but he was underweight and had a severe worm infestation for which he was treated and still needs more treatments.
When I receive happy pictures of him I will update.

Munchie went to the vet as he already had some bad teeth in February (he has gingivitis) but the vet told us that it was not bad enough for surgery at that time.
We saw that his mouth was bothering him so we booked a dental surgery for him and it showed that that was very much needed as 14 teeth were removed!!!
He was bleeding a lot during and after the surgery and it worried us a lot but after staying overnight in a (cozy) cage (in our living room) he was very well this morning!
He had a steroid injection because of his bad gums (worse than his teeth) and will have antibiotics for 10 days.

Paula came very bad so we took her to the vet again.
She was in a very bad state (we knew) and unfortunately there was nothing else we could do for her...
The only way to end her suffering was to send her over the rainbow bridge.
RIP dear Paula.

This morning Babouschka wasn't eating, what was very strange as usually she's obsessed with food, and she was acting very strange....
So she went to the vet. A blood test was done and thank God the results were ok.
But she was dehydrated and had an infection in her mouth.
She was put on the drip, had an antibiotic and vitamin injection and from this Saturday she'll have an antibiotic course for 5 days.

We had some VERY difficult days....
Last Thursday early morning (30th April 2020) we found Paula, one of our oldest cats (she's 15 years old), lifeless on the floor in our back yard, obviously she fell from the wall.
We rushed her to the vet where she was examined immediately, X-rays were made and we were happy to hear that she didn't break anything but the vet wanted to keep her in the hospital on oxygen and for observation.
So far so good but in the evening the vet told us that she had a traumatic hernia on her side and that she was very weak.
Most probably she had a stroke when she was walking on the wall and fell down...
On Friday morning the vet told us that it wasn't looking good at all, she was breathing badly but in the evening she managed to get up a bit and was walking around the cage. So a slight improvement...
Saturday morning she was very bad (the vet thought she was dead!) but later on she managed to hold her balance while sitting and wasn't struggling to breathe.
The hernia seemed to be not a full hernia. The muscle layer on the abdomen has 2 layers and most probably only one layer was damaged, which could heal on its own. So no surgery needed.
She was taken off the drip.
Sunday she regained some of her balance and there was a slight improvement but still nowhere near 100%.
She still needed force feeding.
This morning (Monday) the vet told us that she could go home to see how it goes....
So we went to pick her up this morning.
We were very happy to have her back here again but it's heart breaking to see her in this state.
She's not eating so we're force feeding her. Now and then she's walking from one place to another but then she just falls down and sleeps...
We really don't know if we did the right thing. Will she be ever happy again?
We did what we could and so did the vet but to see her in this state is really heart breaking...
We'll keep you updated.
