🌞 Some of our cats enjoying the sunshine after some gloomy days 🌞

We took DUKE to the vet for a check up.
He had a dental 2 months ago but still showed like his mouth wasn't ok. After a good check up the vet assured us that he doesn't have any teeth problems but his gums are bothering him because of gingivitis.
He had a slow working steroid injection so hopefully he'll be feeling much better soon.

2 males from a colony were caught and neutered.
They are brothers although they don't look like it as one of them is a Siamese and the other one is a grey tabby (not less beautiful!).
The Siamese was limping lately so he was thoroughly examined by the vet; he had a swollen joint in his back leg so an X-ray was taken. Fortunately nothing was broken but most probably he was bitten by another cat (or something else).
He's on antibiotics for 7 days and hopefully he'll be better after this course.
We kept them together in a cage these last days (they were already caught on the 20th November) as they love each other so much and are inseparable but unfortunately we had to put them in different cages now because the Siamese needs his antibiotics twice daily and we can't take the risk that the tabby will eat the food with the medicine in it.
They used to be friendly with one of his feeders but of course they are very confused after being caught, put in a cage and taken to the vet, so they are not friendly at all with us but (hurray hurray!) the feeder will take them into her care from this Sunday and will foster them.
She will try to regain their trust and find them a forever home together. Fingers crossed!

This morning we opened the cages for our babies. Alfie finished his antibiotics and Poppy also recovered so it was time to let them explore!
Alfie came out of the cage straight away and was walking a bit around but after 10 minutes he went back in the cage!
It looks like he loves his safe cave!

It took Poppy a bit more to come out of the cage but once she was out there was NO way back! haha!
She spent the day running around with Mia and Ivy (and all the other cats).

A female and a male were neutered.
As usual, the female will stay in our recovery for 7 days (with antibiotics and painkiller/anti-inflammatory) and the male will be released after 2 nights.

We took ROGER and ROSIE to the vet.
ROGER was dumped in one of the colonies we feed. It was very obvious that he used to be a home cat, as he was so friendly, so we took him in in November 2020. He was already neutered, had a lot of ulcers in his mouth, had a heart murmur and a fractured upper left canine.
Of course we didn't know his age but the vet guessed he was born somewhere in 2016.
From that time the poor boy had a lot of (mouth)problems and after a lot of vet visits, antibiotic courses and steroid injections, all his teeth, except 2 incisors, were removed in July 2021.
This last week he was having problems again, he was drooling and we saw that he wasn't well so today he had another steroid injection. Hopefully he'll feel better soon!

Initially we only had an appointment for ROGER today but yesterday we saw that ROSIE was deteriorating quickly so we booked her also for an appointment.
She was found as a kitten in 2015 and was always a weak, tiny girl but in general she was doing quite well.
Unfortunately these last weeks we saw that she was loosing a lot of weight and was drinking a lot so we knew already that she was having kidney problems.
The vet confirmed that she had serious kidney failure and advised to put her to sleep as nothing could be done for her and not to let her suffer.
Fly high sweet Rosie, you'll be in our hearts forever.💖

New babies in the house!
The two kittens who were neutered last Friday (they're around 5 months old) were living in one of the colonies we feed and because they are so friendly and innocent we decided to keep them here; they are not street wise and too friendly. They could be run over by a car or easily being picked up by people with less good intentions so we decided to keep them safe.
So... we had to "refurbish" our living room with 2 cages (for the time being); it's going to look more and more as if we are living in the sanctuary as most of our cats are living IN our house!
Here they are: Alfie and Poppy.

3rd November 2023
A male and a female were neutered.
Unfortunately the male had some problems in his mouth; the vet suspected FeLV and advised to do a FIV/FeLV test but this came out negative which was such a big relieve!!
But... according to the vet there's definitely gingivitis and also inflammation of the lip so he has a course of antibiotics for 8 days.
Let's hope it's just a bad infection of the gums and he'll be fine!
