Two females and two males from our colonies/feeding places were neutered!

One of the most important pet food suppliers in Malta, Borg Cardona Pet Supplies, made it possible to donate to sanctuaries on their website.
A great initiative and we're hoping that people will use this option as we're buying a lot from them!

We were extremely worried about the female who was neutered last Monday but fortunately she's doing very well!
She's eating very well and taking her antibiotics and painkiller!

The last female who was dumped in one of our feeding places was neutered.
Unfortunately there were some complications with excessive bleeding and they had to make another incision in her belly (the neutering was from the flank) but soon after the bleeding was under control.
According to the vet she had a little enlarged and slightly displaced spleen which is why they nicked it but we're doubting this...
Most probably the bleeding was caused by cutting a muscle as neutering from the flank involves cutting 3 muscles 😥
Unfortunately they're always in a hurry and the vet who's the very best in neutering females (key hole) isn't neutering stray cats anymore 😿
As if they're not important enough..... 😥

The project 100 of our national hero FABIO SPITERI came to an end. An athlete and an extreme animal lover!
Every year he challenges himself with extreme races and this year he completed 38 km swimming, a 422 km run and a 1800 km bike.
His aim was to collect € 100.000, managed to collect € 77.500 which he distributed today amongst NGO's, sanctuaries, shelters, cat feeders and people involved in helping abused animals.
We were one of the NGO's/sanctuaries who received cat food and vouchers with a total value of € 1500.
We are extremely grateful! 😻

And another 4 cats from our feeding places were neutered!

Another home visit from our lovely vet Dr. Rose Bonanno.
MAMMY CAT
Her ear was checked and Dr. Rose was happy with the result!
And so are we!
A completely different approach of treating a heamatoma ear and it worked! NO surgery! (see November update)

TIGGER
Tigger had also a haematoma ear but we left it to dry up and that seems to be the right thing!
She was shaking her head lately so we wanted to have it checked and fortunately there was only a lot of wax (which was cleaned by Dr. Rose) and we'll have to clean it regularly.
She also took a sample of the wax and took it to her clinic to examine the cytology but NO ear mites were found.

COPPER DEWDROP
Copper had some growths again, one on his flank and three on his tail so we were very worried.
On the 31st May 2024 we took him to our regular vet because this was the first time he had 2 "growths": one on his tail and one on his back leg (see update May 2024) and at that time they were drained (emptied). We were told that if they would come back again he would need surgery.
Today we learned that these are sebaceous cysts - non cancerous!
They shouldn't be drained as they will always come back again!
Surgery would only be needed for cosmetic reasons.
Another different approach from our lovely vet! Sooooo happy with her!
